Next weekend Bob Mould and Rich Morrel are bringing their East Coast dance sensation BLOWOFF! back to Chicago again - just in time for Market Days.
They were here during IML/Bear Pride/Memorial Day weekend and blew the roof off of the Metro.
Next Saturday Night - August 1st - they're doing it again. You'll be partying the day away at Market Days so why not spend the night dancing to some of the hottest DJ's/Music Producers in the country!

Yep, you heard that right, they love themselves some porn! Did you realize that the porn is a $12.5B industry? That is $12,500,000,000 and almost $3,000,000,000 of that is from online porn.
The author of the report, Ben Edelman, took at look at peoples online porn subscriptions and linked them up to income, zip codes and even the value of online memberships and came up with something really interesting - Utah has the highest per-capita consumption of porn in the country.

Now don't worry about those people with dial-up or less than broadband, they're still number 1 with 1.74 per thousand homes subscribing to porn. Illinois is somewhere between Virginia at 1.0 and North Dakota at 0.69 per thousand (apparently there was a lot of bunching)

I'm not a fan of opera, but I am a fan of backstage activities.
Alas, I am fortunate though in that I do have friends that are fans of the opera, and they have given me the amazing opportunity to take in two operas: The Barber of Seville and Lulu. Both of which were exhilirating, but not quite what I'm really into, I'm more of a Showtune/Musical kinda guy, it just is what it is!
But enough about Opera already....let's talk about this backstage stuff! Every year the Lyric Opera of Chicago holds a "benefit" Back Stage Tour and last year I missed it! So I made sure that I wouldn't miss it this year.
My friends Todd & John (the boys who so politely invited me to the Opera) and I made our reservations for the opera EARLY, I think the first week that ressies were taken, so that we wouldn't "miss the boat." We were fortunate to get our first choice (First tour of the day) and we were excited about going backstage. Todd had been on the tour before, but John and I were both virgins (when was the last time I was able to say that?)
We got to the Opera early, checked in and headed over to the bar where we had our morning juice: tomato with a big splash of vodka. It was good juice too, they didn't even bother to dilute it with ice - gotta love that! While we were drinking our juice we had a chance to go through a couple of wardrobe closests that were full of costumes for us to try on....we were in queer heaven - Cocktails AND Costumes!!!
Finally they called our group number and we headed off to tour behind the scenes at the Lyric Opera. We got a crash course on the history of the Lyric Opera and dove head first into the tour finally heading backstage. Our tourguide was the current Guild President and she was gracious and filled with information about the opera house, it was obvious that she loves this place.
In a recent campaign filing, the Morman Church has revelaed that they spent more than $190,000 to help pass Proposition 8.
The church has been, up until this time, hush hush on their involvement with the Proposition, many church members donated money to the Yes on Prop 8 campaign, but the church kept saying that they were not doing anything to encourage their congregation. Protests and boycotts have occurred across California at businesses that admitted to donating money to the 'Yes on 8' campaign. It has been estimated that members of the Morman Church donated upwards of $20MM.
But in the filing made Friday, the Mormon church reported thousands in travel expenses, such as airline tickets, hotel rooms and car rentals for the campaign. The church also reported $96,849.31 worth of "compensated staff time" – hours that church employees spent working to pass the same-sex marriage ban.
Now that the church has finally admitted to their involvement and financially backing the "Yes on 8" campaign, do you think that they should lose their Tax Free Status?
Despite a winter storm raging through the city, it did not stop several hundred LGBT supporters to join forces and voices to tell President-elect Obama that he needs to follow through on his promise to repeal DOMA.
