Olga Stolpovskaja and Dmitri Troitskij, Russia, 2003
Directors Stolpovskaya and Troitsky craft a wacky world of love, sex and Buddhist healers in this zany comedy from Russia that’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. Advertising executive Timofei seems to have it all: a job where lines like “Freedom is cola!” are seen as the height of brilliance, and a beautiful television reporter girlfriend. But Timofei’s life takes a plunge into the surreal when one night, as he’s driving home, a young Mongolian man falls out of the sky and on top of his car. He takes the strange man home and they begin a torrid affair. Captivating for its ironic depiction of modern Russia in the throes of a new capitalist frenzy, as well as for its narrative flights of fancy, You I Love will never cease to amaze, surprise, and charm you. 35mm, 85 min.
