TURBAN RENEWAL” – GENDER-BENDING ACTOR TAKES OVER ROLE IN LONG-RUNNING CHICAGO HIT
Local cult fave and infamous gender bender John B. Boss (joined by Kendel Lester as Gina and Dustin Hamilton as Dick, pictured) assumes a new position as Swami Comonowannagetonya in Chicago’s polysexual musical cabaret revue, “Kama Sutra Vegas Bound and Gagged” playing in an extended OPEN END RUN at Davenport’s Piano Bar and Cabaret, 1383 N. Milwaukee Avenue on Saturdays at 10:30pm continuing through October 24th (August 29th, September 12, 19, and 26, October 3,10,17 and 24th) There is no performance on September 5th.
Boss recently played the role of Roger DeBris in “The Producers” in two suburban offerings. Other recent gender-bending roles have been Albin in “La Cage Aux Folles” at Little Theatre On The Square in Sullivan Illinois, and Mary Sunshine in “Chicago” at Star Plaza Theatre in nearby Merrillville Indiana.
Directed and staged by Buddy Reeder, assisted by Kendel Lester, and powered by Musical Director Michael Carlson’s Pussycat Dolls-inspired musical tracks, “Kama Sutra” was created by Grammy Award Winning writer Terry Abrahamson, whose credits include Oprah Winfrey, Larry Flynt, John Lee Hooker, Joan Jett, Muddy Waters and the Boston Celtics Fight Song recorded by George Thorogood.
Following the song-by-song resuscitation of young Gina and Dick’s lackluster lustlife by Boss’s 1800 year old swami, Kama Sutra, enters it’s sixth month of the current incarnation of its four year run as the destination of choice for Chicago’s more adventurous Bachelorette Parties and swingers groups opting for a theatrical facilitator that gives consenting couples plenty to talk about.
Energized by non-stop audience interplay building to a musical chairs Sybaris hot tub suite giveaway every show, Kama Sutra has brought down the house at Northwestern University Sex Week and hosted Meet-Ups, birthdays and even a Senior Citizen outing from The Breakers Retirement Community in Chicago’s Edgewater area.
