Grace Place Women: Free Weekly Yoga Classes

Grace Place Women offers free, twice weekly yoga classes for lesbian, bisexual, queer and questioning women in the interest of creating community, friendship and support. The classes are one hour long, and are suitable for all levels, including beginners. After class, tea is served, giving the participants the opportunity to share their experiences in an informal discussion.

Tutankhamun & the Golden Age of the Pharaohs

On November 26, 1922, the tomb of King Tutankhamun was discovered, unlocking the most precious treasures the world had ever known. Throughout the late 70’s, millions of Americans marveled at the treasures of King Tut in an unprecedented museum exhibition. After nearly 30 years, King Tut’s treasures return to America one last time in Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs.

VISION 11: Inside Chicago Galleries

The Art Dealers Association of Chicago marks the 11th anniversary of VISION, Chicago's premier celebration of visual arts. Free opening night festivities in both River North and the West Loop will be followed with two weeks of free programming, including gallery talks, happenings, music, meet-the-artist tours, weekend gallery walks and all new exhibitions.

Sticks + Stones Cultural Exhibit

A three-part exhibit featuring a traveling exhibition, Nazi Persecution of Homosexuals 1933-1945, from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, an extensive collection of red ribbon AIDS awareness pins, and past Gay Games memorabilia.

Catherine Opie: American Cities

Catherine Opie returns to the MCA for an exhibition of her photographs of Chicago, part of her ongoing "American Cities" project. Los Angeles-based gay artist Opie has been working for the past seven years on her American Cities series.

Wolfgang Tillmans

Approximately 300 works are presented at the first major retrospective of the gay German photographer in an American museum, co-organized with the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles.

Art of the Sensual

The art of Luis Fernando Uribe, through vivid colors, entwining forms, and overt subject, has the disarming quality of being deeply erotic without necessarily being directly sexual. His work has been sold to many prominent private collections, as well as, to the the Latin American Art Museum (Long Beach, CA), Museum of Bellas Artes (Medellin, Colombia), the Bellas Artes Museum (Caracas, Venezuela), and the DeYoung Museum (San Fransisco, CA).

101 Talismans for a Happy Death

The late Chicago Artist Joseph Conlon's series 101 Talismans for a Happy Death will be on display at Aron Packer Gallery. Conlon, who was HIV positive for over 20 years, created the work in the last five years of his life and passed away in 2005.

Alexandra Billings and Diverse Harmony

In 1987, transgendered singer and actress Alexandra Billings starred in Charles Busch's "Vampire Lesbians of Sodom" at the Royal George Theatre and received an After Dark Award for Best Actress in a comedy. Since then she has appeared in shows too numerous to mention and won another After Dark Award as well as a Jefferson Award nomination.
