The Difference of AIDS Legal Council of Chicago
The AIDS Legal Council of Chicago exists to preserve, promote and protect the legal rights of men, women and children in the metropolitan Chicago area impacted by HIV.
Providing legal services to people in need, and educating about HIV-related legal issues, the ALCC reaches out to Make A Difference!
The ALCC is the only service provider in the state of Illinois exclusively dedicated to addressing the legal needs of persons with HIV and AIDS.
It was a different world when they opened nearly 20 years ago. Ignorance and hatred created legal problems for countless people with HIV and AIDS. There was denial of medical care, loss of employment, and broken confidentiality; just to name a few. Many needed help preparing wills and powers of attorney. In response, a small group of volunteers came together in 1988 and started the ALCC, one of the first of its kind dedicated to providing legal services to people with HIV.
With a staff of three attorneys and five paralegals who work out of two permanent offices. The Council is the largest training resource on HIV-related legal issues in Illinois and one of the most respected members of the AIDS service community. ALCC is also an important leader in advocating for public policy and legislation that enhance the ability of people with HIV to access medical care, public benefits, housing, legal assistance and other vital services.
The services of the ALCC may be something that you or a loved one should take advantage of. Perhaps in the future, you will be faced with unmet legal needs in the area of HIV/Aids. The AIDS Legal Council of Chicago will be here!
I hope you will all join me in Chicago at a Celebration of the ALCC Wednesday, September 10th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Sidetrack.
Tickets to Make A Difference start at $50 and are on sale right now!
