9.16.2009

Sept. 17 - 20, 2009

Can you believe this weather?  It's been phenomenal and I'm so glad that we at least got two weeks of summer.  Take some time to relax and enjoy this time between summer and fall.  There's all sorts of movies, shows and festivals going on this weekend - so get out there and have some fun!

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 17

Don't forget that the Art Institute is open until 8PM tonight and admission is free after 5PM.  Take advantage of the free admission to many of the Chicago museums.  It's a great way to take advantage of some culture without busting your wallet.

Dennis Miller is walking the boards of The Park West at tonight, tickets are $75.

Poseidon! An Upside Down Musical is playing at the Chopin Theater through the end of this month.  If you loved the original Poseidon with Shelly Winters you'll love this.  Friends have seen it and loved it! Tickets are $25, students $15.  Purchase them online.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 18

Catch the 1946 classic The Postman Always Rings Twice starring Lana Turner and John Garfield (and also feature Hume Cronym - remember Cocoon) at the Gene Siskel Film Center at 6PM.  You can purchase tickets at the box office or at Ticketmaster, tickets are $10 each.

It's a movie weekend, Director Kevin Smith (aka Silent Bob) will be at the Chicago Theater this evening for a discussion - and hopefully an open Q&A session.  Find out what this amazing director is up to and find out what Silent Bob really has to say.  Tickets are $18-58.

I really don't know what to make of Lucha VaVoom, it's a mix of Mexican Masked Wrestling, Burlesque and Comedy - it just sounds fun!  I'm sure there'll be lots of laughs, lots of masks and who knows maybe even a boobie or two.  The Congress Theater hosts this crazy night, tickets are $25 for general admission or you can get ringside tickets for $60

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 19

I'm not a huge fan of Perez Hilton's gossip site, but I do like his taste in music.  Perez Hilton Presents is showcasing Lady Hawke (pictured), Ida Maria, Semi Precious Weapons and Sliimy at the Metro.  Tickets are only $17.50, check out these hot new artists...I'm not sure how I feel about Sliimy.

The 2001 John Cameron Mitchell film Hedwig and the Angry Inch is tonights Midnight Movie at the Music Box.  Come on, when is the last time you went to a Midnight Movie?

The 2nd Annual Windy City Comicon hits the Center on Halsted from 10AM-6PM - today ONLY!  More than 80 creators will be on hand with events planned chock full through the day.  Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 20

How well do you know "Boystown North"?  Edgewater is quickly turning into one of the gayest neighborhoods.  Today you can take the Edgewater Home Tour for $25 and see the insides of several classic homes in the historic neighborhood.  Check the site for full details.

The 1893 Worlds Colombian Exhibition of 1893 defined Chicago.  The Chicago History Museum is hosting a Devil in the White City Boat Tour for $45 per person.  Meet at the Chicago Line Cruise dock at North Pier at 6PM for a two hour tour based on the Erik Larson's novel.  Check the site for full details.

Grammy Award winning performer Kathy Mattea will be at the Northshore Theater for the 4th Annual 98.7 WFMT RADIO Midnight Special Folk Festival starting at 3PM.  Tickets are $25-$55 for this four hour concert of amazing folk music.

**BONUS** If you're up for an afternoon of board games, card games or any kind of game - meet up with the Chicago Gay Gaymers at Guthries - 1300 W Addison from 5-9PM.

About Michael Lehet

Michael was the only member of his Elementary School A/V Club. He now spends most of his time editing videos of him lip-synching to Miley Cyrus songs, playing with the latest coolest gadgets and uploading photos to the interwebs, all while trying to spiral uncontrollably into becoming a multi-media conglomeration; oh yeah, and he's got a blog.
