Chicago, IL — After nearly a decade of raising awareness and funds in the fight against HIV/AIDS, the Hearts Foundation has decided it will no longer host Fireball, Chicago’s annual fundraising dance party weekend. The Hearts Foundation has reached this difficult decision after careful analysis. Decreasing attendance and increases in production costs are the contributing factors to this decision. 

In the past 8 years, the all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization has raised and distributed approximately one million dollars to local organizations that provide much needed services to those living with HIV/AIDS. In recent years, the Foundation has expanded its mission to support local organizations that address other health-related issues in the GLBT community, such as LCCP, which provides health care services to women in the GLBT community; and in hosting a full day forum that addressed homelessness among GLBT adolescents. 

The Hearts Foundation will remain an Illinois not-for-profit organization while it examines and determines what future it will have in the ongoing fight against HIV/AIDS and in its support of the various agencies that address GLBT health related issues. The Foundation would like to note that with the success of life-sustaining medication in the treatment of HIV/AIDS came a false sense that the pandemic is over. Complacency is now as significant a threat as the virus itself. Incidence rates are climbing once again, and new communities are becoming vulnerable. Stay involved, stay informed and continue the fight. 

The Board of Directors, on behalf of the Hearts Foundation, would like to thank the thousands of volunteers, its many supporters and all of the businesses that have helped to make Fireball the great event that it was.
