West Hollywood, CA — West Hollywood, California will play host to the 36th Annual LA Pride Parade and Festival on June 9 – 11, 2006. The event, themed “Our Agenda: Love. Equality. Pride” is organized by non-profit group, Christopher Street West. The parade will take place along West Hollywood’s Santa Monica Boulevard and festival at the City’s West Hollywood Park. In 2005 the event was one of the largest in Los Angeles, welcoming over 350,000. 

The festival, taking place on Saturday, June 10 and Sunday, June 11 will include main stage entertainment, numerous dance pavilions and affinity venues. Top talent confirmed for 2006 include, The Bangles, Berlin and Taylor Dane. More information on the festival activities and tickets can be found on the CSW website at www.lapride.org

Recently, West Hollywood was named as one of the “gayest cities” in the United States, according to www.gaydemographics.org, a group studying the 2000 US Census to track the LGBT population and demographic trends in the country. According to the group’s analysis of respondents in US cities that answered positively to living with a same-sex partner, West Hollywood ranked third with 18% responding that they do live with a same-sex partner. 

Since its incorporation in 1984, the City of West Hollywood has been proactive in bringing about landmark legislation in support of issues that affect the LGBT community. Among them, one of the country’s first “Domestic Partnership Ordinances,” the prohibition of discrimination based on sexual orientation and a city ordinance prohibiting discrimination against people with AIDS or AIDS-related conditions.
