The annual North Halsted Halloween Costume Parade celebrating the highs - and lows - of the disco era

Chicago, IL — A satanic Donna Summer? The Village People as Desperate Housewives? The Bee Gees in leather? Gloria Gaynor as a gladiator? Sylvester looking like a pregnant Britney Spears?
North Halsted, one of Chicago's most eclectic streets, will (for better or worse) celebrate the iconic '70s dance era that forever changed the world of pop culture with "Freak Out: Disco Gone Evil," as the theme of its 10th annual North Halsted Halloween Costume Parade on Tuesday evening, October 31.
Presented by Triangle Neighbors Association, a branch of the Lake View Citizens' Council, and in conjunction with merchants from the Northalsted Area Merchants Association, the parade is again guaranteed to be one of the city's most outrageous, imaginative and can't miss Halloween celebrations.
The parade steps off from Belmont and Halsted at 7:30 p.m. and continues north to Cornelia. Free registration for a costume contest for children, pets, adults and groups begins at 5:30 p.m. at Spin, 800 W. Belmont.
NEW THIS YEAR: Winners of the costume contest for kids and pets will be announced at 7:30 p.m. Adult and group costume contest winners will be announced at the end of the parade on the main stage at Roscoe and Halsted.
Thousands are expected to either participate in or view the parade which has quickly grown to become one of the Chicago area's must-attend Halloween events. The parade draws a broad mix of area residents including children and families.
There will be $5,000 in costume contest cash and prizes, including airline tickets for two. There will also be post-parade musical entertainment. (Halsted Street traffic north of Belmont will be blocked approximately an hour before and after the parade.)
