Chicago, IL — Chicago police continue to investigate the shooting of six men at a party in a house on Chicago's South Side in what may have been a homophobic hate crime.
According to police reports, two masked men burst into a house in the 7900 block of South Woodlawn Avenue early Sunday morning, spraying semi-automatic gunfire throughout the living room hitting six men – two hospitalized with serious injuries.
Residents in the area told the Chicago Sun-Times that the building was known as the "Gay House".
"We always be seeing them, and they always be looking at people," Kevin Carter, 18, told the Sun-Times. "They give you that gay look, like you're a female or something. That ain't cute. People be ready to fight. ... I knew something was going to happen to that house."
One partygoer who declined to give his name to the Sun-Times said that the gunmen "just bust(ed) through the door, and everything went haywire."
Two of the victims remain hospitalized in serious condition with non life threatening injuries.
Police spokeswoman Monique Bond told the Sun-Times the crime has not been classified as a hate crime. Bond said that the police civil rights unit is assisting investigators.
