19-Year-Old Found Stabbed Repeatedly; Similarities to Previous Murders of Gay Men

Chicago, IL — Chicago Police are trying to determine if the stabbing death of a 19-year-old man in the Uptown neighborhood on Thursday can be linked to two similar murders.

Johnathan Fields, of 820 W. Lakeside Place, was pronounced dead at 3:35 a.m. Friday at the Stein Institute.  About 5:30 p.m., Fields' roommate walked into the first-floor apartment in Uptown and found Fields' body.

According to a source in the Chicago Sun-Times, Fields' unit did not appear to have been broken into and nothing appeared to be missing.

A Cook County medical examiner's office spokesman said Fields was stabbed in the neck, abdomen and arms.

The brutality of the stabbing attack has similarities to the murders of two gay men both a few miles from the most recent crime scene.

In 2003, theater director Brad Winters, 38, was found naked and stabbed multiple times in the back in his Lincoln Park apartment. In 2004 another victim, Kevin Clewer, 31, was found naked and stabbed repeatedly in his apartment in Lakeview.  In both cases, police reported no signs of forced entry. Both murders remain unsolved.  At the time, Chicago Police issued a community alert and issued a composite sketch of a suspect.

A Chicago Police spokesman says at this time there is no link, but confirms the investigation continues.

CBS 2 reports that drug paraphernalia was found inside the apartment.
