Los Angeles, CA — Simple Life star and celebrity socialite Nicole Richie gave birth on Friday to a healthy baby girl at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Richie and fiancé Joel Madden left the hospital this evening with their new daughter, whom they have named Harlow Winter Kate Madden.

Already nicknamed 'Winter' in the press, Richie and Madden's baby girl weighed in at six pounds, seven ounces at birth. Richie's adoptive father, singer Lionel Richie, his wife Brenda, and her half-sister Sophia were on hand to witness the birth.

"The beautiful healthy baby girl left the hospital with her ecstatic parents," a rep for the couple told People.

Richie has said in the press that getting pregnancy was a "blessing in disguise."

"I owe this baby my life. I owe this baby everything, and I have a responsibility now for someone else," she told Diane Sawyer in an August interview. "I have to set the right examples. I want to be the best parent I can be. I would really want to be someone my child would look up to."

Previous to her pregnancy, Richie was often featured in the tabloid press for appearing dangerously anorexic and spending much of her time drinking and partying. While pregnant, Richie spent 60 minutes in jail in August for driving the wrong way on a freeway while under the influence.

Richie and Good Charlotte front man Madden created a nonprofit organization in November, the Richie-Madden Children's Foundation, in honor of their firstborn child, according to E! Online. The couple plans to wed at some point this year, according to Richie's Simple Life co-star Paris Hilton.

Friday marked a boom day for celebrity births at Cedars-Sinai with Christina Aguilera, Courtney Thorne-Smith and David Alan Grier's wife, Christine Y. Kim, all arriving at the hospital on their way to becoming proud parents. Kim gave birth to a baby girl named Luisa Danbi Grier-Kim, according to People.com. Thorne-Smith and husband Roger Fishman welcomed son Jacob Emerson Fishman.

Aguilera gave birth to her and husband Jordan Bratman's first child near the time 'Winter' was born, according to several media reports. The couple reportedly sent a text message to family members Friday afternoon simply saying, "Baby has arrived. Mom and dad are doing well," according to GaySocialites.com. There are no further details at this time about Aguilera's newest family member.
