Los Angeles, CA — Just weeks after the California Supreme Court overturned a ban on same-sex marriage, a new poll released Wednesday shows growing support among California voters to allow same-sex marriage.
The nonpartisan Field Poll found 51 percent of registered voters favor the idea of allowing same-sex couples the right to marry and having regular marriage laws apply to them, while 42 percent disapprove.
The survey of 1,052 registered voters was completed between May 17 - 26.
This is the highest level of support for same-sex marriage in more than three decades.
California officials announced Wednesday that marriage licenses can be issued to same-sex couples beginning on June 17.
