San Francisco, CA — Today is a historic day in the State of California as the Golden State becomes only the second state to allow gays to marry.

Last month, the California Supreme Court struck down the states ban on same-sex marriage, paving the way for gay and lesbian couples to marry.

The ruling which begins at 5:01 Monday evening Pacific Time requires officials to issue gender-neutral marriage licences but it does not require them to perform ceremonies.

Many county clerks plan to stay after hours to accommodate couples; however, licence bureaus in three counties plan to stop performing weddings altogether.

With same-sex weddings planned across the state, florists, bakeries, and other wedding-related industries in California are seeing a huge increase in business.

Way to go California! I know the conservatives in California are pushing for a vote in November, but I read that public opinion is swaying in support.

I'd hope to see a few news stories like this:

California Prepares for Supreme Disgrace

AP – California’s citizens express outrage at their humiliation in front of the nation by its own supreme court. By a 5-4 threadbare majority California’s Supreme Court has disgraced its citizens by overturning proposition 22, a ballot amendment that passed with a twenty point majority. Moreover, the state has ruled not to stay the enactment of benchmark use of jurisprudence to inject its own political views on the citizens whose rights it is sworn to uphold. Starting tomorrow, with the first so called “gay marriages,” California will follow Massachusetts in pronouncing a governmental travesty of a magnitude not seen since Caligula’s horse was named consul of Rome.

More shocking, starting tomorrow, every state in the union will be imperiled by this rogue court. Marriage licenses will be issued from California for any couple from every other state in the union. Not only did California’s five "justices" dare overturn the will of its own populace, it has purposely sought to wreak havoc on its brother and sister states. Finally, you can rest assured that no matter what California's citizens say in November the 9th circuit federal court will overrule them. Before the new year is out this will be before the same supreme court of these United States that just granted illegal immigrants and terrorists additional rights.

America, if you do not realize you are in the grips of a totalitarian regime of the intellectually superior and arrogant, consider the last time you can imagine a newspaper running a story like that above. I hope the liberals in favor of same sex marriage come to their senses. This country belongs... belonged... to all of us. What you steal won't be rights, it will be the liberty and the authority that belongs to the people of this nation-- that's you. Stand up with the rest of us. The civil union laws in California are fair. Behave properly and stand for this nation as it has stood for you for so long

You can always rely on the Christians to find these articles and post crazy ramblings and made-up stories like this!

Now a legitimate news posting:

Californians support gay marriage: poll
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - A majority of registered Californian voters oppose changing the constitution of the most populous U.S. state to bar gays from marrying, according to poll released on Wednesday.

The Field Poll survey found 51 percent against approving a possible November ballot measure to prohibit gay marriage, with 43 percent in favor. A slightly differently worded question on the same issue found 54 percent opposed and 40 percent in favor.

Paul... I'm thinking you should go back to writing news for Pat Robertson's CBN News.
