Los Angeles, CA — After months of speculation and a slew of false media reports, it's finally official: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are new parents once again. Jolie gave birth to twins on Saturday in at the La Fondation Lenval hospital in Nice, France. The couple named the baby girl Vivienne Marcheline, the middle name for Jolie's late mother Marcheline Bertrand, and the baby boy Knox Leon.

According to the French newspaper Nice Matin, which was the first to break the official news of the birth, mother and twins are doing fine. "The parents and the babies are in excellent health," Jolie's obstetrician Dr. Micel Sussmann said, according to the Daily Mail. "Everything is fine. The operation went just perfectly. Angelina is in very good spirits. Brad Pitt was at her side... The mother and father are very, very happy."

Although rumors late last week indicated Angelina Jolie was scheduled to deliver twins via c-section on Tuesday, Sussman stated the operation was moved up for "medical reasons," though he refrained from giving any details.

The boy, Knox Lean, weighed just over 5 pounds and the girl, Vivienne Marcheline, right at 5 pounds. The twins arrived shortly before 8 p.m. on Saturday, French time, and were born 15 minutes apart.

The middle name for the couple's new daughter is an obvious tribute to Jolie's late mother Marcheline Bertrand, who died of cancer in January, 2007. No word yet on the origin of the other baby name picks.

Jolie and Pitt, who have been together since 2005, came out publicly in support of equal gay marriage rights by stating in 2006 to Esquire magazine that they would not marry until "everyone else in this country who wants to be married is legally able."

The couple, often nicknamed Brangelina, has one other biological couple together, Shiloh, 2, and three adopted children, Maddox, 6, Pax, 4, and Zahara, 3.

According to the Nice Matin newspaper, Jolie and Pitt have sold the exclusive first photo rights to the twins to an unnamed U.S. magazine for around $6 million. The money will be donated to charity.
