Chicago, IL — The people and organizations that bolstered the 2008 AIDS Run & Walk Chicago to record-setting success will be honored Thursday, Nov. 13 at the annual meeting of the AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC), to be held from 5-8 p.m. at the University of Chicago, Gleacher Center (450 N. Cityfront Plaza Drive).

More than 7,000 people showed their support for the fight against HIV/AIDS at AIDS Run & Walk Chicago in Grant Park on Sept. 20. Benefiting AFC and over 70 local AIDS organizations, this year's Run & Walk doubled its participation and has netted more than $490,000 for AIDS-related services - making it one of the largest and most successful events to date.

"We simply couldn't have done it without them," AFC president/CEO Mark Ishaug said of the honorees.

The following individuals and organizations will be honored Nov. 13 for their extraordinary support of the 2008 AIDS Run & Walk Chicago:

* Dave Samber, Polo Café & CateringChicago Creative Partnership (Advertising Sponsor)

* Chicago FootworKINGz (AIDS Run & Walk Ambassadors)

* The Children's Place Association (The Highest Raising CommunityDirect Team)

* Gap/Banana Republic (The Most Spirited Corporate Team)

* WVON 1690AM - The Talk of Chicago (Media Sponsor)

Run & Walk organizers credit several factors for this year's record turnout including an eye-catching "Let's Get Moving" ad campaign developed by Chicago Creative Partnership, in which three dancers twist their bodies into the shape of an AIDS ribbon; a fundraising incentive known as CommunityDirect incentive in which 100% of all money raised by a team is returned directly to the participating HIV/AIDS-related organization; and a renewed concern by local residents in the wake of summer headlines reporting 40 percent more HIV infections in the U.S. than previously known.

Since it was established in 2001, AIDS Run & Walk Chicago has netted more than $2 million to battle the epidemic.
