Chicago, IL — The Center on Halsted will host a new program, "Joys and Challenges,"a group for the trans SOFFA community, believed to be the first of its kind in Chicago. The group will be a professionally facilitated discussion group for Significant Others, Family, Friends and Allies (SOFFA) of transgender individuals and will discuss, share and learn about the joys and challenges of having transgender persons in their lives. Beginning on Jan. 26, the group will meet every Monday, 7 to 8 p.m. for 10 weeks. There is a $5 fee per session. For more information, call Tim Bechtel at 773-472-6469, ext.158 or send e-mail to tbechtel@centeronhalsted.org. In addition, Center on Halsted will host two age-specific groups for HIV-positive individuals looking to connect with others living with HIV/AIDS to share stories and experiences in a safe and friendly environment. The groups begin the second week of January for 10 weeks. Ages 18-35 meet weekly on Wednesdays, 6 to 7 p.m., Jan. 14 through March 18. Ages 35-plus meet weekly on Thursdays, 6 to 7 p.m., Jan. 15 through March 19. For more information or to register, call Aldo Hernandez, LCSW Health Educator/Social Worker at 773-472-6469, ext. 450 or send e-mail to ahernandez@centeronhalsted.org. Registration ends on Jan. 29. For more information on the Center on Halsted, visit www.centeronhalsted.org.
