Chicago, IL — Crain's Chicago Business is reporting the Sears Tower will become Willis Tower.
Willis, a London-based insurance broker, announced this morning that it will consolidate five local offices into more than 140,000 square feet at the Chicago landmark and that the building will be renamed Willis Tower.
The 110-story Sears Tower located at 233 S. Wacker Drive is the second-tallest free-standing structure in the Americas, surpassed only by the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada, and the fourth-tallest in the World.
Commissioned by Sears, Roebuck and Company in 1970, the tower was designed by chief architect Bruce Graham and structural engineer Fazlur Khan of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill.
