Chicago, IL — A group of almost 40 Northalsted business owners, managers and employees gathered last Tuesday for a safety meeting at Circuit Nightclub, 3641 N. Halsted St.
Representatives of the Chicago Police Department, including 23rd District Commander Kathleen Boehmer, discussed ways that employees can stay safe. "This is a critical issue for workers in an entertainment district, who may be going home very late at night or early in the morning," she said.
Alderman Tom Tunney (D-44th Ward), as well as representatives from the offices of State Rep. Sara Feigenholtz (D-IL 12th) and State Sen. John Cullerton (D-IL 6th) were present. The Illinois State Attorney's office was also represented.
"Our businesses really appreciate the support of the police and our elected officials, because we are all in this together. Awareness can go a long way towards keeping yourself out of a potentially dangerous situation," said Northalsted Business Alliance President Andrew Knecht.
"The presentation itself was well thought out and very informative. One of the Major themes, of most importance, is for victims to specifically as possible, to get an accurate description of their offender" said Patrick Elbrecht, Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS) Business Chairman, District Advisory Committee. "The more accurate the description of the perpetrator, the greater the chance that the police will be able to apprehend the perp(etrator) and obtain a conviction," Elbrecht added.
