I'm disappointed with Amazon. I just received this book and although it covers campgrounds well, the info next to the title doesn't mention that it's a 2004 copyright. This means that most of the info in it is out of date. I admit that it's my fault that I didn't read further down the page to find this out. That's why Camping World and Good Sam update their annually (abt. $13.00 for new ones). A 2004 edition is absolutely worthless. Six years old and with the poor economy, I can guarantee that many of the campsites are out of business or have reduced amenities. The book would have been worth something if it was maybe a year or two old. Shame on Amazon for selling such out of date material. Next time I order a book from Amazon, you better believe I will read every shred of info on the book!

My wife and I are just returning from a 7,000 mile RV trip that took us from our home in Oregon all the way to Florida and back. We bought this book to assist us in finding places to stay while on the road and, when we used it, it proved to be reasonably accurate. We did find a number of campgrounds that were described as clean and attractive but, when we stayed there, we found them to be far less than described.
Additionally, the book is terribly incomplete. There are many, many wonderful RV parks that don't seem to rate inclusion in the book. I don't know why, but you might assume that the non-included parks somehow didn't "play ball" with the Frommers and "Reserve America" folks who seem to have some control over the content.
All in all, this is not a bad book, it's just not a complete book.

I have had this book since it came out and still reference it today for mostly full hookup campgrounds. I have picked 10 campgrounds over the past few years going solely by the book reviews and have not been disappointed yet. I just bought the 2009 Trailer Life directory since we just became Good Sam members and although it's more up to date, I don't find it as easy to read as the Frommer's one. I do wish Frommer's updated theirs more often but I will still use it to "double check" reviews from the newer Trailer Life directory.

I cannot understand how anyone can give this book a bad review - it does exactly what it advertises - gives a review of most of the campgrounds in America. I have used this the entire spring and summer before writing the review. This was my first year with a camper, and I did not know where to start. One time that I went to a campground not reviewed in the book, it was the worst trip we had - apparently there was a reason it was not reviewed! I found a great campsite nearby that I didn't even know existed. Having young children, I am thankful that the book explains why they think a good campground is good. For example, I was quickly looking at a campground rated 5 stars, the first part of the description was that it was not a great campground for kids - great! Moving on!

This book helps me plan every camping excursion that my family and I undertake. After the planning stage is over, we put it in the camper for a quick reference. The book is a little generalized, but it has so much to cover. Use it in conjunction with other more specialized books.
