Things aren't pretty for Emerson Watts. Em was sure there couldn't be anything worse than being a brainiac the body of a teenaged supermodel. But it turned out she was wrong. Because that supermodel could turn out to have a mother who's gone mysteriously missing, a brother who's shown up on her doorstep demanding answers, a former best friend who's intent on destroying Stark Enterprises to avenge the death of his lost love, and a British heartthrob who's written a song about her that's topping the charts. How can Em balance all that with school, runway shows, and weekend jaunts to St. Johns - especially when she's got ex-boyfriends crawling out of the woodwork who want more than just a photo op; a sister who is headed to the high school cheerleading championships; a company she represents that seems to be turning to the dark side... Not to mention trying to convince the love of her life that models aren't really airheads after all...especially one model in particular. But then, nobody said it was going to be easy being Nikki. Praise for Airhead and Meg Cabot "Cabot…dishes up all the story ingredients her fans have come to know and love - romance, humor, believable teen dialogue and even a fantastical twist…Pure fun, this first series installment will leave readers clamoring for the next." - Publisher's Weekly "Meg Cabot is chick-lit royalty." - Newsweek "The text's abundant references to current pop culture and Em's witty character keep this read both grounded and fun." - Kirkus Reviews

| Meg Cabot is comfort food for the soul |

For me, Meg Cabot's books are like comfort food. Whenever I'm feeling stressed or unhappy, picking up one of her novels is a no-fail way to perk me up. As with most of her novels, Meg Cabot did not disappoint me in Being Nikki.
Cabot's writing style flawlessly reflects the mind of the average teen. Her adolescent characters aren't as deep as some, but they aren't incredibly shallow either. Some may scoff and roll their eyes at Em's problems, but as a teenager, I can relate to many of them. Not that I'm an undercover underwear model, but you know what I mean.
The cover of Being Nikki hints at a gossipy, shallow plot about a self-absorbed supermodel. This isn't the case at all. Em is a nerdy girl stuck in a model's body who tries to juggle many of the difficulties that come with being famous. The whole brain switch idea is just a tiny bit weird, but Meg is able to pull it off with her witty writing.
If your looking for a great teen read, I will always recommend Meg Cabot. Her hilarious style and lovable characters will captivate your heart. Since this is the second book in the Airhead series, I strongly encourage you to look into Airhead, as well as Cabot's other books.

After reading and loving Airhead, the prequel to this, I was eager to see how Being Nikki would measure up. As it turned out, Being Nikki was just as great, if not better, leaving this to be a new favorite addition to the trilogy so far.
While it took a while for it to get going, once I was past the fortieth page the rest went by in a flash because of all the fun new twists and turns Meg added to keep this story fun and exciting. My favorite plot aspects of this one ranged from getting to see more about Nikki's family to seeing Em and Christopher's relationship finally get the kick it needed.
Further more, the characters still continued to be very likable in this one. Well, expect for the 'villain', but there're not exactly put there to be liked. Lulu still provided to be a riot, Em was still the sweet and timid girl who I continued to root for, Frida was a fun addition, and Christopher was just well Christopher. :)
And the ending was just an all around WOW! I simply couldn't believe what was happening and the cliff hanger was one that definitely makes me want to run out to get Runway, the next addition, as soon as it's out.
In all, Being Nikki provides to be a classic Meg Cabot read in the sense that it's fun, adorable, and a read that calls to be eaten up like candy after Halloween.

| Ambitious But Clunky Plot |

Meg Cabot gets really ambitious with BEING NIKKI, the second book in the Airhead series, which features corporate conspiracies, advanced technology, and hidden motives. However, the pacing was clumsy, which made for a less-than-satisfying reading experience.
BEING NIKKI introduces a whole array of new complicating elements. While these eventually move the plot along to its ambitious point of corporate conspiracy, the first two-thirds of the book did very little for that point. I constantly found myself shaking my head in disbelief at the number of confusing layers wrapped up in one another that did not contribute to the point of the book. The characters were, for the most part, annoying and no different than they were in the first book.
The ending I admit is pretty cool, but it places high expectations on the third book in the series to wrap all the different threads up. I will probably finish reading this series, as BEING NIKKI ends on such a horrifying note that I can't help but demand to know how it ends, but I highly doubt this will go on any list of books I'd recommend to people. The series lacks something...maybe heart?

It's hard for me to say something about a Meg Cabot book other than "It's Meg Cabot; need I say more?" And really, I feel like saying that again. The fact is, I love Meg Cabot, and I love everything I've ever read that she's written, even if some are better than others. Airhead was definitely better than others, and I was worried that Being Nikking wouldn't be able to live up to the awesomeness of Airhead. It definitely did, perhaps even surpassing it. It's creative, it's original, it's a love story, and it's a mystery. Cabot's continuation of the life of Emerson Watts and supermodel Nikki does not disappoint. Em is a fun, witty, likable character, and it's impossible not to laugh (or cringe, depending) at the situations that she regularly finds herself in. I couldn't put this book down as I followed Em on her exciting and dangerous voyage towards truth, and by the end I was practically falling off ly seat (or rather out of my bed), mouth agape, wondering how I will EVER manage to wait until 2010 to read the next book in the series.
Who Should Read It?Really, anyone into teen fiction; anyone that likes books with girls and boys and love and excitement and pseudo mystery.
