  • Growing up on the tough Philly streets, Gwen O'Neill has learned how to fend for herself. But what is she supposed to do with a nice, suburban Jersey boy in the form of a massive Grizzly shifter? Especially one with a rather unhealthy fetish for honey, moose, and...uh...well, her. Yet despite his menacing ursine growl and four-inch claws, Gwen finds Lachlan 'Lock' MacRyrie cute and really sweet. He actually watches out for her, protects her, and unlike the rest of her out-of-control family manages not to morbidly embarrass her. Too bad cats don't believe in forever. At nearly seven feet tall, Lock is used to people responding to him in two ways: screaming and running away. Gwen - half lioness, half tigress, all kick-ass - does neither. She's sexy beyond belief and smart as hell, but she's born protector. Watching out for the family and friends closest to her but missing the fact that she's being stalked by a murderous enemy who doesn't like hybrids...and absolutely hates Gwen. Lock probably shouldn't get involved, but he will. Why? Because this is Gwen - and no matter what the hissing, roaring, drape destroying feline says about not being ready to settle down, Lock knows he can't simply walk away. Not when she's come to mean absolutely everything to him.

I read the first book in this series and fell in love, shelly laurenston is a good author. who has a knack of making the story flow. The mane squeeze continued the story line and I was happy to know what had happen with the other characters from the pervious books.

lots of fun with great characters!

Ms. Laurenston just keeps getting better and better! Hero & heroine are funny, engaging and deftly handled. well worth the money

    Another great book from Shelly
Customer Rating: 5 out of 5
I have most of this authors other books and I must say that this one had me laughing out loud more than a few times. The story is also steamy enough at times without being porn. The characters and the plot in this book both drew me in and kept my attention. I think Laurenston is an entertaining and brilliant writer in her genre and I can't wait for the next book.

    A Roaring Good Time!
Customer Rating: 5 out of 5
I can quite literally count on one hand the number of authors out there who have the ability to make me chuckle, giggle, and laugh out loud while reading their books - in fact, there'd be several fingers left over if you want authors that make me do so with every single book they pen (regardless of pseudonym). Shelly Laurenston (who also writes the hilarious and sizzling Dragon Kin series under G.A. Aiken - and I HIGHLY recommend those), frankly, is the only one. I haven't been reading them long...I only stumbled across them this past year...but since, I've spent many a happy, happy hour gorging myself on the fun and furry times, and have now read them all. The Mane Squeeze is one of my favorites of this particular series.

Not only is it funny and sexy, but Lock and Gwen turned out to be my favorite romantic pair of the series. I just adored Lock, with his unique and endearing lumbering bear ways, and Gwen, with her feisty mixed blood and mixed personality - so plucky and assured in some areas, and yet with her own insecurities that kept her very real and likable. And as per the norm, the supporting cast - some we know, some we just got introduced to - are fabulous and add such charming and wonderful layers to the book. Not to mention some hysterical comedy.

For light paranormal romances, I really don't think you can get much better than Laurenston right now. There are aspects of the plot that provide some conflict and character growth, but nothing so heavy or deep that you would need to delve into the plot as a serious discussion topic. There's maniacal roller derby, for goodness sakes! You don't read Laurenston if you want complex and intricate plot development. There's just enough there to meat the bones, not enough to drag you down from the grin-fest. Sometimes I like my paranormal books (romances and urban fantasy both) a little darker - so I read darker authors. Other times, I just need to have a good time. Laurenston's my go-to gal for that - bar none. I can not say enough just how comforting it is to know that no matter what's going on in life, a book by Laurenston (or her alter ego Aiken) can bring a smile to my face and give me a break from my day to day. The series as a whole is one great big keeper and re-reader for me, and I hope for you too.

Laugh out loud funny, great light read
Customer Rating: 5 out of 5
This was a great, light hearted read with lots of humor throughout. I loved the crazy stuff that happens as well as the main characters Lock and Gwen. The story was fast paced and made the book hard to put down. Only one little niggle was that I liked how Gwen's brothers were portrayed in earlier books but in this book in trying to portray them as protective of Gwen it seemed a bit overboard. Didn't seem to fit with the characterization of the earlier books. But that was a minor thing really. OK, and I just have to mention that I LOVED the thing about the bear shifters' lips. Enough said on that--you have to read it! Yummy!

All of Laurenston's Pride Stories are terrific, with my favorites being this book, The Mane Attraction and The Beast in Him. I liked her Magnus Pack books to a lesser extent--still good but not great like the Pride Stories. I really enjoyed her Dragonkin series (written under GA Aiken). Check those out if you haven't already. My favorite in that series was What a Draqon Should Know. It was hysterical! Loved the characters.
