Paperback Publisher: BookSurge Publishing This book is meant to add another voice to the ongoing discussion of the place of homosexuality and homosexual relationships in the experience of the Church. The expectation and dream of this work is to give voice and hope to those who have been abused by the misuse of scripture, allowing God's voice to be heard in these passages in ways that have been silenced for many generations.

Dwyer, John F. "Those 7 References: A Study of 7 References to Homosexuality in the Bible", BookSurge, 2007.
Good but Could Have Been Better
Amos Lassen
Another voice comes on board for the non-ceasing discussion of just where homosexuals fit in the mind of the church. This is a book that is meant to help those who feel they have been abandoned and now want to speak up. The book is comprehensive and there is no condemnation of the GLBT community. Dwyer shows that we cannot depend upon scripture for the exclusion of homosexuals and it is now time to examine what is really meant by what is written. A lot of research was put into this book but I still had the feeling that something was missing although I am not sure what.
Dwyer analyzes each of the seven references to homosexuality--although they in actuality do not refer to homosexuality so I suppose the terminology is wrong here. Rather these are the even places in the Bible that others claim are the verses that are anti-homosexual. The book is not always easy to understand. The point that is important is made however and we see how easy it is to misinterpret something especially when not dealing with it in the language in which it was originally written.

Those 7 References: A Study of 7 References to Homosexuality in the Bible is a reference book. It is not a novel or an easy read book. What it is, is a book that has been written by the Bishop who is a homosexual and has done extensive research into the areas of homosexuality and what the bible does and does not say about homosexuality. It is a very good book to read if you have questions about homosexuals attending church and whether they are accepted by God. It is an excellant book to read if you are religious and you have a family member who is homosexual and you have a battle accepting them because of your beliefs. I recommend this book if you are homosexual and think you can not be a christian because you are gay,it will answer alot of questions and allow you to accept yourself and know that God accepts you too.

This book is of moderate use. The scholarship behind it is somewhat standard with little new material included. The text of the book itself, however, would have benefited from better proof reading before printing and publication

Dwyer provides both a comprehensive and summary exegesis of, as the title suggests, the seven biblical references commonly used to claim that God condemns homosexuality or homosexuals, or both. Dwyer is responsible and faithful in demonstrating that such claims are at best misguided. He offers any genuine student of scripture authentic exegesis of each passage. He does not condemn persons who believe that gay people are inherently sinful or condemned. He simply shows that scripture cannot truly be called upon to support such beliefs. Readers may find some of his arguments familiar, perhaps having encountered similar ones elsewhere. But one cannot discount the convenience of having all seven of these passages, critical to any scriptural study on the hot-button topic du jour, addressed in a single small volume, and addressed wisely, intelligently, and faithfully.

I was hoping for something a little easier to understand, but I suppose given that I wanted to get to the nitty gritty of the origianl language of the scriptures that are used against homosexuals, then it gave me what I wanted, I just got bored reading it after a while.
