The House of the Dead: a mortuary whose directors are drop dead gorgeous and terminally horny-and one of them up to mischief. Stanley and Tom try to separate the naturally dead from the murdered dead and find themselves awash with coffins-until they come to the one Stanley's name on it. Deadly Slumber indeed.

The Deadly Mystery Series
Customer Rating: 5 out of 5
I have read all four of the Deadly Mystery series by Victor J Banis and can heartily say I have never read 4 more diverse, exciting and attention holding books ever. I can honestly say I was simply searching for something differant to read and I fell into this authors first book Deadly Nightshade because the cover and content seemed unusual and my curiosity was raised. I was not disappointed!!!. I read the book and fell in love with Tom and Stanley and completely mesmerized by the turns and twists of the original and exciting story. I instantly read Deadly Wrong, Deadly Dreams and three quarters through with Deadly Slumber. I cant pick a favorite as they are all so original, so throughly thought out and the characters are so alive and real and the situations and locations are so informative and entertaining that you are there with them every exciting step of the way. I can not praise this series enough. I suggest you order all 4 of these books together so you do not miss a single thrilling word. I, myself am awaiting further books about Tom and Stanley in the near future. It is a series of surprises and remarkable writing and as an aside to my comments, You do not have to be gay to love Stanley..A real treat for readers.

Deadly Slumber (Deadly Mystery 4) by Victor J. Banis
Customer Rating: 5 out of 5
The Deadly Mystery series by Victor J. Banis is probably the only gay mystery series out there where the romance part of the book is good as well as the mystery one. In the four books we saw the evolution of their relationship, from being casual lovers and probably having no chance to be nothing else, to tentative long term partners, to the almost apex of happiness in book 3. Then the abrupt end of that novel, with a Tom, the strong man in the couple, scarred and for the first time weak. And maybe also a bit castrated from the fact that this time, it was not him who saved Stanley. They have their roles in the relationship, Tom is the protector and Stanley the one in need of protection, you can't change that, otherwise Tom doesn't know what is his place. Tom is a simple person, he is a man who reasons and acts more with his gut (and heart) than his mind, he is not stupid, but he is not one to brainstorming too much. If you take away from him his role, what he is for Stanley, what is his added value to the relationship. But as simple as Tom is, it's also simple for him to realize that even if scarred, he is still the same man as before, and that Stanley need him.

It's not Tom's trouble to adapt to the new situation that is the focus of this 4th novel, but more the descending phase of their relationship. Don't get me wrong, it's not a negative descending, but more the natural evolution of a relationship fated to last a long time. You can't be forever newly wedded birds in love, you have to arrive at the time when you question if you are ready to take, or maybe respect, the decision to be IN a relationship, with all that means. And strange to say, it's not Tom who questions it, but Stanley. As I said, Tom is simple, he is a man of heart and gut, and when he decided to be with Stanley, he was well sure of what that would have meant. Already before, with the woman who wasn't a woman, Tom proved that he can be tempted, but he is strong enough to not surrender to temptation. Instead I think that Stanley realized for the first time that he has taken a decision for life. Stanley was infatuated, he was madly in love, and he strongly wanted Tom. More Tom resisted and more Stanley wanted him. Stanley didn't have time to think at what would have happened once his desire was granted. That once he had a man like Tom all for him, he has to be a one to one relationship, it's not possible to go off track, neither for a moment. Tom is a very demanding man, not at words, but as a whole: loving a man like Tom is a full time work, and Stanley is probably scared.

It's not a secret, if you read my previous reviews, that I like a lot Tom; I like also Stanley, but truth be told, my favorite is Tom. And so I'm true, I was a bit annoyed with Stanley, how could he have any doubts on his relationship with Tom? didn't he realize how much Tom changed his life to be with him? Didn't he at least be sure of their relationship and not be distracted by some pretty boys who flirt around? But then I understood that Stanley wasn't really interested in any of them, it was only a way to test his love for Tom. And then it was nothing of dramatic or irreparable, only some passing thoughts, and as Tom put it, if you have an itch, you scratch it with your man, and it's everything all right, even if that itch was caused by another man... see? simple and plain my Tom, no painstaking works on an hypothetical "mind" betrayal.

Oh, I forgot to tell you about the mystery... but is it really necessary? There is a mystery, it's good, I wasn't able to find for sure the killer, even if I have my idea on who they was... well friend, you now that, if you want a review on a mystery novel, this is not where you will find it. An "happy" note this time was that neither one of the victims was someone I care of, it was so sad in the previous books to read of interesting characters that were already dead, or soon be dead. I'm still grieving for that young boy in book 2.

Another Great Mystery of Murder and Tom and Stanley's Love
Customer Rating: 5 out of 5
I hope this will not be the last book in the fabulous gay murder/mystery series! I have loved everyone of them. I think the thing about these stories is not only the mystery but the mystery of Tom and Stanley's difficult love and relationship.

I loved Tom and Stanley's love/hate, then love relationship. It was well written, great dialogue. Tom is made to be very sexy looking and the girls and guys fall for him. Stanley with his quick wit can be dull-witted when it comes to murder investigations!

There is the simmering guilt of the price paid by each for the saving of each other's lives.

It is an excellently written series with no lags, great dialogue, great descriptive narrative and especially two great characters!

I hope this is not the last one. But it sounds like it is. I'm sad.

Victor Banis continues a wonderful series with this novel
Customer Rating: 5 out of 5
Victor J. Banis's Deadly Slumber is the fourth novel in his Deadly Mystery series. It combines the ongoing tale of Tom Danzel and Stanley Korski and their mismatched relationship and an intriguing and unique mystery that will keep the reader involved and entertained and, ultimately, sitting on the edge of their seat in suspense.

Our heroes,Tom and Stanley, are an addictive duo. I've said in the past that Tom is the caveman and Stanley is the butterfly. Well, Tom seems to be settling down a bit with time. His eye still roves but his heart is firmly attached to his partner. Stanley, on the other hand, is suffering from quite a bit of angst regarding Tom's accident from the previous novel as well as emotional fallout from having killed a man. While Stanley is always handy with a quote and always searching his soul, Tom is much more concrete and is the anchor that Stanley relies on to keep himself grounded. Tom knows his own mind and is comfortable and confident with his decisions.

With some series, the main characters tend to get old after a while, and the plots lean towards repetitive. Not so with Tom and Stanley and the Deadly Mystery series. Mr. Banis keeps his two heroes as fresh and interesting as they were in the very first book. In fact, they are more intriguing now, because while we now feel like we know Stanley and Tom somewhat, their relationship and their psyches are constantly evolving.

Readers will find that this story appeals to their intelligence, their emotions, and even to their sense of humor. Mr. Banis is an artist and a philosopher, and reading his work is always a pleasure for me. If you haven't read this series, you've simply been missing out. Go pick up Deadly Nightshade and get cracking...I think you'll be glad you did.

Opposites Attract
Customer Rating: 5 out of 5
[...] detectives are becomming quite a common genre, so it's nice to breathe some fresh air in this new series. Both protagonists are likeable and credible, but I really dug the "nelly" guy. He is unabashedly [...], with all the stereotypical traits, but has an inner toughness that makes him a successful detective when the going gets rough. He needs his super macho partner to keep him safe. Their romance is rather unlikely, but still one that the reader wants to believe, perhaps because they have to work their way thorugh so many difficult situations, both personal and professional. This book is part of a series by a highly competent veteran author. Let's hope many more installments have been planned.
