It's a 90 minute explosion of color, fashion and excitement as Cher hits the stage at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. In a show rich in sequins, velvet, lace and great music, Cher celebrates her return to the top of the charts with the ' 'Do You Believe' ' Tour 1999 - the high energy experience that is Cher in concert.

You don't have to actually like Cher to at least respect her for having the chutzpah and sheer resilience to overcome any number of ill-conceived moves (most of which she acknowledges with wry self-deprecation), including bad records, disastrous relationships, embarrassing infomercials, and enough cosmetic surgery to underwrite several surgeons' Beverly Hills manors. This 90-minute concert, filmed in Las Vegas in '99 and subsequently broadcast on HBO, is Cher in all her kitschy glory. She's a performer, not just a singer (a good thing, given her limited if distinctive voice), and the show gives us the requisite array of Bob Mackie costumes (Valkyrie and vamp, pirate and prostitute, and one item that she herself describes as "Bozo the Clown meets Braveheart"), wigs galore, a host of beautiful bodies writhing about onstage in what might charitably be called "interpretive dances" (also known as "filler while the star changes outfits")....

Oh, and there's music too, from the old hits ("Half Breed," "Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves") to "Believe," the late '90s techno-dance smash that here is saved until last, with a few covers thrown in for good measure (U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For"? Go figure). We also get some old Sonny & Cher TV clips (bet you didn't remember that Ronald Reagan and David Bowie appeared on their show), highlights from her very impressive film career, still photos, drawings of Mackie's creations, and the "Walking in Memphis" music video. All in all, it's a weird, extravagant, campy stew, and a heck of a fun ride. --Sam Graham

Rip Off
Customer Rating: 1 out of 5
This video is a ripoff. It is nothing but clips from the two previous Cher concert videos, the Farewell Tour and the tour prior to that. It eliminates all dialogue from the star, it rearranges the order of the show (which was similar on both tours with the costumes and scenery changed) which ruins any degree of continuity or thought process the star and her director applied to the project, and is shorter than either of the other videos. Nothing but a repackage, without being identified as such anywhere on the box or during the DVD. I returned this product.

I love CHER, so I love this concert show from Las Vegas. Favorite video on this DVD is her song "TAKE ME HOME"

'Great Performance'..

'Cher - Live in Concert' BELIEVE Tour 1999 in Las Vegas as part of the Home Box Office (HBO) Live Concert Series is more than worth buying. You will turn the sound up and rock. It is very hard to stay still during this 'Live' performance. I give it 'Five Gold Stars'.. Mike in Montana

Cher in Live in Vegas
Customer Rating: 3 out of 5
I have been a Cher fan since the Sonny and Cher tv show days. I have two other dvd's of Cher live one at the Mirage and one at M.G.M. and they are both truly entertaining to watch . I was kinda sorta disappointed in this Cher Vegas video not because of Cher or her songs but the way it was put together. I mean first off you have no idea of where she was appearing in Vegas and also this video was not really a clear copy. I have no idea irf it was a copy of the original but it is NOT worth the price in my opinion. It is okay it it is your first Cher video but to a true Cher fan it was not an A grade video maybe a C + or a B - .

Total Rip-off

This DVD is a sham, from the get-go; I am not sure how it was able to be produced and sold, as it comes-off as a pirated issue. The good reviews listed here, obviously are not for this Hudson Street version. (1)the picture on the cover is a poor copy/scan of a 1979ish picture of Cher; (2)it contains song clips from HBO's 1999 "Live in Concert" and Image's 2003 "Farewell Tour"; (3) the editing is terrible, as the song clips are not arranged in the proper order (Cher does not change BACK INTO a costume)and the clips from the 2 concerts are mixed-up; (4)before each clip a VERY cheap looking graphic comes-up and gives the song title - they should have just had someone hold up a sign with the song title; (5)the box states it was filmed entirely in Las Vegas, but one of the concerts was filmed in Miami; (6)the video quality is very poor, and blurry...almost as if someone held a video camera at their TV and taped it. Please order the originals...not this scam.
