James Morrison had a dream start to his career as a singer-songwriter - his debut album Undiscovered yielded no fewer than five singles - You Give Me Something, Wonderful World, The Pieces Don't Fit Anymore, Undiscovered and One Last Chance.

Undiscovered went to No 1 in Britain, Top 30 in America and won him the 2007 Brit Award for Best Male (he was also nominated for Best Single and Best Newcomer). James's debut sold over two million copies worldwide and he became the biggest selling British male solo artist of 2006.

James's reputation as a must-see live performer also soared. Following his jaw dropping, first ever TV performance on Later With Jools Holland he went on to play amazing shows to adoring crowds, including the V festival twice in one day, the Royal Variety Performance, the Concert for Diana and the more traditional 3 sold-out UK tours.

He toured Europe, Australia and Japan, did three separate tours of America, gigging coast to coast. He also supported John Mayer on his large outdoor `sheds' tour in the US. James loved the musical appreciation in the American South, in particular. "People were awesome in Alabama - really friendly, loud and lairy. Even if you play a quiet song, afterwards they just go YEAH!!!" In August 2007 he sat down to write and record the Notoriously Difficult Second Album. And at first it did prove difficult. "As soon as I'd get something good I'd think about it and screw it up." And then the penny dropped: "Just go for what you're feeling at the time. That's how I worked on the first album, and in a way I think that's some of the reason why people liked it. It wasn't trying too hard." And so the people who really made him feel, the ones who became the subjects of his songs on Undiscovered - his family and friends - his relationship with each of them, and the new chapters in all their lives, became central to the new album. James went with whatever and whoever was on his mind, and took it from there. The songs began to flow.

"I've called the album Songs for You, Truths for Me because that's what I feel it is. It's songs for Gill and everyone else. But for me they're truths. They're how I feel."

Songs for You, Truths For Me is a classic James Morrison record that once again showcases his distinctive, raw, soulful style - but takes it to the next level. "It's less playful, more to the point," he says. "But I haven't consciously gone for a different sound. With me, it always comes down to the lyric, the melody, and the rest flows from that."

James Morrison's big, unashamedly romantic heart and generous spirit shines through like a beacon. Songs For You, Truths For Me sees the wide eyed soul-boy become a wiser man. With this he shines once more on a brilliant new collection of songs and cathartic truths.

Customer Reviews:

Fresh Record, Good Music
Customer Rating: 4 out of 5
I must admit that I'm a relative newcomer to James Morrison's music. I'd heard 'You Make It Real' but never really gave the artist much thought until June 2009 when I caught his concert in Copenhagen. Despite the driving rain, he was a fantastic performer, and through chattering teeth, I said to my friend, "We've got to check this guy out when we get home!"

"Songs for You, Truths for Me" is Morrison's second album, and it's a true gem. The record manages to combine blues, soul, and just plain good acoustic rock music into a seemless blend of catchiness. The first six songs are the highlight of the album, led by the gentle 'You Make It Real' and the piano-driven 'Please Don't Stop the Rain'. Morrison's duet with Nelly Furtado, 'Broken Strings', is somewhat dance-like, while 'The Only Night' and 'Nothing Ever Hurt Like You' are more '60s influenced. After track six, the record slows down a bit with slower and less-exciting songs, but it still retains its soulful flair. That, combined with Morrison's gravely voice, lend a retro feel to the entire thing.

Many people have compared James Morrison to that other English James, Mr. Blunt. I'm not familiar with the latter's music, so I can't really draw an accurate comparison. What I can say is that, for me, "Songs for You, Truths for Me" was a fresh record full of good music. What more could you want?

Borderline Perfect

This album is almost perfect. James Morrison's Terence Trent D'arby-smooth vocals, haunting emotion, and fantastic production are only slightly nicked by the uneven writing quality. All in all, fantastic work of art.

Great sophomore album from James Morrison
Customer Rating: 5 out of 5
In 2008, James Morrison released the follow-up to his debut album "Undiscovered", his second album "Songs For You, Truths For Me". While Martin Terefe produced the lions' share of the first album, he is relegated to two songs- "The Only Night" and "Once When I Was Little". Eg White, who did "You Give Me Something" on the "Undiscovered" album, returns for "Dream On Hayley" and "Please Don't Stop The Rain" was produced by Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic. Nelly Furtado stops in for the duet "Broken Strings" and she sounds unusually restrained. For the most part, it is an excellent album from Morrison, but marketing seems to be his problem. Although he is a singer-songwriter, he is being marketed as a rock musician when it's clear that his heart lies in soul music. After all, his musical influences are Donny Hathaway, Sam Cooke, Prince, Sly Stone, and Otis Redding. Get this and his debut album as well, this is a talent not to be ignored!

So much Soul for a White Guy!
Customer Rating: 4 out of 5
James Morrison became an instant favorite singer-songwriter when I saw him on TV. He has an amazing voice and gives credit to all of his influences on his albums. If you like to hear a singer who can give it his all with a band that can make it all come together, this is well worth the purchase.
