Mia Thermopolis, Princess of Genovia and star of Meg Cabot's insanely popular #1 New York Times bestselling Princess Diaries books, has "penned" her first historical romance novel . . . with help from Meg Cabot

He's a tall, handsome knight with a secret. She's an adventurous beauty with more than a few secrets of her own. Finnula needs money for her sister's dowry, and fast. Hugo Fitzstephen, returning home to England from the Crusades with saddlebags of jewels, has money, and lots of it. What could be simpler than to kidnap him and hold him for ransom?

Well, for starters, Finnula could make the terrible mistake of falling in love with her hostage.

Princess Mia Thermopolis, Meg Cabot's most beloved character, has always been an outspoken animal-rights activist and committed environmentalist. In keeping with Mia's true spirit, Meg will be donating her advance to Greenpeace.

Ransom My Heart
Customer Rating: 3 out of 5
Sword fights, feisty heroines, a dashing earl disguised as a knight, murder, a scandalous pregnancy--toss it together and you've got yourself a rather intriguing story (most of the time). I loved Finnula, our heroine of the story. She had spunk and I loved reading about the bickering between her and Hugo, her hostage. I thought they made a great couple. Their relationship happens rather quickly but it was believable to me. Finn needs money in order to provide for her sister to marry so she gets herself a hostage to ransom. However, it turns our her hostage is actually the Earl of Stephensgate! This leads to some heavy consequences for Finn, such as marriage and then being accused of attempting murder.

The story isn't overly complicated and pretty predictable. At times, I also felt there was too much detail and the length of the story could have been shortened and tightened. Sometimes I really got into the story and at other times I could put it down and forget about it. But overall it's a lovely book when you're looking for a happy ending.

WARNING!
Customer Rating: 1 out of 5
I just wanted to give a warning to people who like Meg Cabot: I'm a teen girl, and I don't like reading "adult" books (about sex, etc). I thought that this book was, in fact, a teen book, so I clicked on the Amazon page that says Look Inside. I then clicked to look at a random page, and saw an explicit scene. So this is a warning for kids and teens who don't mind kissing in books, but they do mind sex scenes.

mia thermopolis wrote this????

As a young woman and a fan of meg cabbot and historical novels i decided that this sounded like a good enough book to read. Light fun and maybe even rich in historic detial. I was very very wrong. as i began to read this novel (if you can call it that) I began to hate the main character Finnula even more. she was whinny, mannish, and was void of personality, basically she was Kristen Stewart. And then we meet "dashing" Hugo Fitzwilliam the most narcissistic man slut i have ever had the misfortune of reading about. I have found villains more appealing. The novel was more like erotica then a real story line. both characters where one dimensional and lacked real qualities. I don't even know they loved each other!!! All i know is that "she melted to his touch" and "he could not live with out her body.' The book should have had Fabio on the cover. It was gross unnecessary and a real disappointment. If you would like to buy your dog a new chew toy buy this book for him because thats all its worth. I would not even recommend this book as toilet paper. Meg Cabbot is a brilliant writer and I expected only good from her but this was a major disappointment.

Combining Meg Cabot and Historical Fiction Can Only Be Good
Customer Rating: 4 out of 5
This book was insanely amazing. Predictable? Yes. But it had a kick ass (literally) heroine and a realistic (though slightly dilusional) hero. And the little side stories all really made it come together, tying up everything and leaving me with this beautifully covered book.

I'm still hoping for a sequel, or just more historical fiction from Meg!

Watch out Parents
Customer Rating: 4 out of 5
I'm a teenager and yes I read romance novels because they are of course the perfect story. I don't read them for the sex. While reading this I was however shocked by the sex. It was unexpected because it was written by "Mia". I would not recomend this book for people under the age of 15, because it may scar you. Also in the last Princess Diaries Mia did allude to writing a book with sex in it. Hello? Wasn't it expected? Whatever it was more graphic than I expected it to be, but who cares? I got over it. I did think it was a great way to introduce teen girls to the wonderful world of Romance novels :). Similar to Cabots early novels-which I LOVE by the way, why did she stop?- Lady of Skye was a favorite of mine. Okay to the book.
It was about a 17 year old girl who kidnaps a wealthy "traveler" to raise money for hops for her pregnant sister, so her sister can get married. And you can figure out the rest. This was a great book. Just read it. And if you're a prude please get over it. That is all I have to say.
